A good friend of mine recently asked a group of us would be willing to trade our day time jobs and be a full-time stay at home mom if the choice was presented ....I answered YES I WOULD.. and now I am a full-time stay-at-home mom. As a Military Wife, We often have to make hard choices. One of great debate is: CAN I EFFECTIVELY BE A STAY AT HOME MOM?

I remember the day even the very second that WE decided I would stay home…This was scary at first, it felt a lot like I was surrendering… Again you have to be mentally ready for this transition…It will always be different for each family as your situation is unique to your family alone. I have two more children at home that I am constantly nurturing so my time with them now is different than say my time with my 20 year old was when I was working 12 on 12 off.

You have to value your time with your family so much that you make the financial sacrifices, the sacrifices of your time and for some even your career….My belief is that what happens at home is CENTRAL to a child's ability to function throughout their life. Raising our children in a loving home with both parents.. This is very important for Patrick and I. I know that I could of done “MORE” with my oldest son time wise, but I was younger then, not as seasoned as I am now and frankly not in a spiritual place to be at home full-time. I KNOW that this was the right decision for US. I know that I have NO REGRETS and I love being able to spend more time with my kids.

I am thankful that we can afford to have me stay at home. But, anytime you CHOOSE to do so, you choose less money which can mean less vacations, smaller homes, tighter budgets, etc. These are all materialistic things... And your children are life's greatest TREASURES….

Is being a stay-at-home-mom (or parent) for everyone? No. And to ALL the working mothers out there, I SALUTE YOU and all you do for your families.. I know that you are making the most of the time you do get to spend with your children. You are working hard for their futures. FINALLY, I know this was the best decision I have ever made in my life..... God bless.

Are you a working mother, stay-at-home mom and/or a mom working from home? I would love to hear from you.

  5. @Renee.....It sounds scary indeed. So grateful that your family was able to hang on during such a difficult period. Unemployment is real and effects each of us.
The best part of your comment was when you stated that you "missed" Adult interaction and conversations. This is a real issue with some stay at home moms. That is why it is imperative that you connect with other Stay at home moms and create a network for support and you never know what may develop. Renee continue to eduate and nurture your kids. God bless.

  6. @Neisha...No one said it was easy being a stay at home mom....But what a delightful job RIGHT? I love being home with my kids. I dont want for you to get discouraged. No stay at home mom is perfect. At the beginning you have a lot to get used to. Just take it day by day and ask the Lord in prayer of all the decisions that you might need help with. There are so many networks of STAY AT HOME MOMS around this country. I am sure you will find one in your state.
you are going to be great just remember PATIENCE, PATIENCE AND MORE PATIENCE!!!!!

Turns out it was the best decision that I have ever made. The key word is "choice". Some choose to work and some choose to stay home. My decision has made our lives so much better, fulller and happier. By the way, your blog ROCKS
