What began as a simple gesture, turned into a lesson for us as parents...
My youngest son Patrick turned 14 today and he did something very amazing. His father Patrick and I asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he said “NOTHING”. I thought I heard him wrong but he actually did not want anything for his birthday.
My husband and I were on our Face time and he wanted to make sure he heard correctly as well. We both decided that we would put money into his bank account and let him decide what he wanted to spend his money on for his birthday.
* MY SON LOVES HIS BIG SISTER *
|MY DAUGHTER AND MY SON 2013|
My baby boy shocked me when he said that he would use that birthday money strictly for his sister Lyric. He wants to spend that money on her and not himself. Again, you heard correctly! He wants to pay it forward. He sat on the couch and explained why he made this decision. He said that he had everything that he needed. “MOM, I really do.” That’s when he stood up and started counting off things one by one.
This is what he said, “Mom,
1 I HAVE A TABLET
2 I HAVE A CELLPHONE THAT’S UNLIMITED
3 I HAVE ALL THE NEW PLAY-STATION GAMES, So I really don’t want to waste that money on myself.
My sister Lyric wants a new game so I will just give the money to her.” **WOW**
It made me so proud that he was again donating his money.
MY HUSBAND PATRICK IS A GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR OUR CHILDREN
|MY HUSBAND AND OUR SON PATRICK 2013|
Last year this same young man donated all of his toys to the Salvation Army. So godly proud of my son and the lessons that he is learning right here in our home. What began as a simple gesture, turned into a lesson for us parents……Thank you Father for this young man that we have raised and thank you Father for trusting and loving me and my husband Patrick enough to co-parent this amazing young man that loves us and loves God…..
Do you have a similar story that you would like to share? I would love for you to tell me all about it. Praying with our children and teaching them the values that are necessary for them to be successful is necessary in this day and age. I pray that he will continue to move forward and keep God in the center of his heart.
I would love to hear from you here at the blog. Send me an email, or leave a message in the comment section.
