YOUR words should reflect the work of the Holy Spirit

RECEIVING A LOT OF LETTERS FROM PARENTS WHO HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES WITH THEIR OWN KIDS. THERE ARE SO MANY BULLIES OUT THERE TARGETING OUR KIDS. PARENTS ARE REALLY FED UP WITH THIS BEHAVIOR AND ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO EMPOWER THEIR OWN KIDS.

THIS BLOG POST IS REPUBLISHED BY REQUEST.
WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED 1/23/12, 12:01 AM

I HEARD TWO KIDS SAYING SOME PRETTY HARSH WORDS THIS MORNING.....When they saw me headed their way, they immediately went in the other direction and took off FAST!!  Obviously they saw the look on my face. Boy was I shocked. Amazingly I  am a little old-fashioned. Growing up if you used such harsh words our mom would be standing by for the "smack down".

This event that I just described speaks volumes
 on how times have changed.

My mother taught us girls that the words that we speak from our mouth should ALWAYS be spoken creatively and be designed to uplift and build up another...Those words I heard was not even close...The truth of the matter is... I was blushing.

My kids think that I am a little
old-fashioned or just a little out of touch with the teenagers today...

Maybe a little bit of BOTH.

When I saw my daughter, I described in detail to her some of the words that I had just heard...and to my shock she was not at all surprised. Apparently this happens often with kids today. Not all kids behave in this manner but I was not prepared for what I was hearing.

This sad fact brings up a interesting debate on HURTFUL WORDS..

So that same evening I felt it was imperative that I sit my own kids down and discuss this issue. My job as a parent is never ending and I find myself learning something new everyday. I told my kids that the words which leave their lips have serious consequences.

Basically.... their words should REFLECT THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT and that their words have REAL POWER.

What leaves your mouth enters your house so use your mouth intentionally!

YOUR WORDS SHOULD REFLECT
THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. (KJV)

However, be good of heart, so that good words come out of your mouth Luke 6:45 to generate good things in life.

When our words are aimed to hurt and tear down, we are living in denial of what God is doing for us and our future.......

My lesson for my kids was to continue to turn to God to help them choose their words and that their father and I was here if they ever wanted to talk again.

Have you had a similar discussion with your kids. I would love to hear your story. Until then, I will be praying for you.

  1. Some people forget how hurtful words can be...If they just took a minute to think and Think carefully about how they speak & what comes out of their mouth...
Our words have power. All of your words should be positive and should always make someone's day a little brighter ...Continue to let your words always be positive. Let them bring glory & honor to GOD. Have a wonderful day
