FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA

              Guantanamo Bay Cuba August 2011

THIS IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL HERE IN GTMO

BOTH MY KIDS WILL ATTEND THE SAME SCHOOL

This year has been full of new experiences for two of my children. First we moved to a new duty station. Then they had to start the process of meeting friends again. Now its the first day of school and they once again have the task of starting anew.
WE TALKED TO THEM ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS

My 11 year old son Patrick is about to begin the 6th grade. My 14 year old daughter is starting the 9th grade. Because there is so much going on with this major move, we decided to start immediately talking with our kids about the first day of school.

THEY BOTH BEGAN TO RELAX

Trust me, my kids are really tired of hearing me ask the same questions over and over(smile)

I just wanted to ask open-ended questions so that Lyric and Patrick could express whatever feelings they may have been experiencing. I figured it was better to cover all the possibilities.

THEY ARE READY TO HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL

Now that we have talked to our children, listened to our children and allowed them to voice their worries, fears, enthusiasm and expectations, we are convinced this year at GTMO will be a positive one for each of them.

  3. @Theresa...Yes they do go to the same school. Let me Explain. There is one elementary school here at GTMO. There is one High School..But there is NO SEPERATE MIDDLE SCHOOL. So the middle school students go to the high school here. The classes are really small and lots of one on one with the teachers. Its really a unique situation. Thanks for asking your question. Hope I answered it for you. God Bless.
