THE MUSIC I HEAR FROM MY CHILDREN...SOOTHES MY SOUL

I have three children, Elijah, Lyric and Patrick. From a very young age we encouraged each of our three children to play a musical instrument. Now many years later I listen to them play and it SOOTHES MY SOUL.

My oldest son Elijah plays a variety of instruments but the prominent one is his trombone. whenever I listen to him play and watch his facial expressions, I light up with pride.

Elijah plays his music straight from memory. He composes and arranges all of his own music.

My daughter Lyric plays the flute. At first the prospect of practicing this flute was something she sincerely dreaded.

But now as I listen to her play tune after tune I think of sitting in the yard with my grandma in North Carolina. Again the memory is one of great joy and the playing of the flute takes me back to a time in my life when I was so child-like and free.

My youngest son Patrick plays the trumpet. The first concert I went to at his school he played a duet and I remember crying so hard my glasses fogged up.

All three of our children are now moving toward other activities and playing their instruments are getting less and less attractive to them in their daily lives.

This is a constant reminder that our children are growing and changing just like the seasons.

Today just for a moment, I will reflect on the memory of all three of my kids playing their respective instruments and I will smile knowing that each one carries a piece of me through their music.  May God bless and keep your family. Spend some time today with your children.

I LOVE YOU ELIJAH, LYRIC AND PATRICK!!!

  2. Always a pleasure to read your stories Lashon. No one took the time to encourage me as a child to pursue music. Studies show the impact music has on our academics. BRAVO to you as a mom that encourages and promotes growth in her children. God is Good.

  3. Thanks for sharing Anonymous. I am glad you posted this comment. Mainly because some people carry around emotional baggage for years and never let go.
You stated that as a child, no one encouraged you to pursue music. Some would have used that as an excuse to be angry or bitter. Instead your positivity shines through in this comment. I am a simple lady that loves her children and I am so pleased that you have honored me wit hyour kind words.
