TEACHING MY KIDS THE IMPORTANCE OF WORK ON LABOR DAY

LABOR DAY

Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women. Since Labor Day is a federal holiday, my husband who is in the USN will have the day off. (Family Time) Our plan for this Labor Day is to teach our children THE IMPORTANCE OF WORK whether its in our community or here at our home.

When your child is young its important to instill a working ethic that will follow them throughout their life. If a child has chores at home it teaches them that they have to show commitment on a daily basis. If I tell my daughter to wash the dishes  I am depending on her to do that task. If she fails to do that "job" then she in turn will let down people who are depending her to complete that task. We are counting on her and she needs to be dependable.
On a bigger scale, if the garbage man has a  "job"  to pick up the trash, but he does not do the job he is hired to do, then lots of people will be disappointed when they realize their trash was never picked up. Countless people are counting on that garbage man to perform his job...... The lesson we are trying to teach them is: NO JOB IS TO SMALL, NO JOB IS INSIGNIFICANT.
Labor day is  a unique opportunity for us as parents to teach our kids five important things.

5 LESSONS WE CAN TEACH OUR KIDS

1.RESPONSIBILITY

2.TIME MANAGEMENT

3.ORGANIZATION

4.SETTING GOALS

5.COMMITMENT

Hope you have a wonderful Labor day with your family. God Bless

  1. My husband and I are now giving our kids a chore list and they will earn money if they do all of it. If it's not done then they don't earn anything. Teaching them the value of money also. Thanks for all ofthe great ideas!!

  2. @Gloria...I just read your comment. WOW a Chore list. (brought back memories) My dad actually had a chore list that he used with the 3 of us. I was the youngest of 3 girls. My father (ARMY) was tough and ran things with a iron fist. He posted the "chore list" and there was no room for discussion.
My husband and I deviated from that approach, they still have chores, we just dont "list" them. We also share with your idea of teaching them the value of money. We have them sve a portion of their allowance...I believe that you can never start to early. This is important on how they will treat money when they earn it. I am glad that I was able to supply you with some ideas. That is why I do this blog, to help as many people as I can. Come back anytime and share some of your stories Gloria. God Bless.
