REMAIN CALM, its time for my daughter to drive

TIME TO TEACH MY DAUGHTER LYRIC HOW TO DRIVE

Growing up in Chicago we had the luxury of Driver's Education in the Public schools. It was useful on so many levels and eased the anxiety of many parents. Well, at least my nervous parents. (Smile) We now live in the beautiful state of Florida and my daughter's school DOES NOT offer driver's Education. WHAT? No Driver's Education? What am I to do? I decided that I would teach my daughter myself. Easy as 123 right? WRONG!!!

MY DAUGHTER LYRIC 15 YEARS OLD

I decided to teach her the basics first and so we started driving in a parking lot. It was here that I realized that my daughter was smarter than I was. WAIT, don't tell her I said that! She was like a sponge and took to the road really well. There are lots of areas that we are still working on but now she has her Learner's permit and the sky is the limit.

TOUGH TO HAND OVER THOSE KEYS

PATIENCE

                                   PATIENCE

                                                             PATIENCE

I realized something very important in the last few months. I learned that not ALL kids drive the same. My daughter Lyric drives a lot different than my oldest son Elijah. MY PATIENCE with her is DIFFERENT than my patience was with him. Maybe that is where all of my grey hairs came from (Smile)

It seems that as parents we have to MAKE A DECISION:

The decision is: AGE OR MATURITY when they feel their children should get behind the wheel. A child's maturity level needs to be achieved BEFORE they should be able to drive. Its cool that they have reached the age where the state says they are ready, but you as their parent need to make the final decision.

We try to set a good example for her behind the wheel. I think that my daughter Lyric was starting to watch us a lot more closely AND she picked up on important concepts.  We are proud of our daughter Lyric and her enthusiasm about driving. As her mother I am trying desperately to REMAIN CALM as this process is transpiring. Wish me luck!

One of the biggest lessons that I have learned as her mother is, In order for my daughter Lyric to be a successful driver, I MUST pray about it AND REMAIN CALM.

Do you have a teenager in the process of learning the rules of the road. If so, I would love to hear from you.

I would love to hear from you here at the blog. Send me an email, or leave a message in the comment section.

  2. Lashon, I can totally relate to your experience with your daughter. My daughter is 22 now and we had some fun times behind the wheel in many parking lots and roads in San Diego, CA. These are definitely memories to be cherished. Thank you for sharing.
