Quality time with my son Patrick...Priceless
I WAS SO TIRED THAT DAY |
WHEN MY SON FIRST TOLD ME HE WANTED TO PLAY FOOTBALL, I WAS LESS THAN THRILLED....OK, SO I WAS ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED OF ALL THE THINGS THAT “COULD HAPPEN”.
AFTER A HEATED DEBATE WITH MY HUSBAND I AGREED TO HAVE MY YOUNGEST SON PATRICK PLAY POP WARNER FOOTBALL.
PATRICK WITH HIS FATHER PATRICK |
WHEN MY SON INITIALLY SIGNED UP FOR POP WARNER FOOTBALL MY HUSBAND WAS STATIONED AT MAYPORT BASE. WITHIN WEEKS OF HIM STARTING TO PLAY FOOTBALL, MY HUSBAND SHIP WAS DEPLOYED. I WAS THINKING, OH BOY, HERE WE GO AGAIN.
THERE HE IS #11 CAMPBELL |
FOOTBALL SEASON WAS A HAPPY TIME AT OUR HOUSE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN MY BABY SO EXCITED NOT EVEN WHEN WE BOUGHT HIM HIS PLAYSTATION 3 GAME. (SMILE)
THAT IS WHEN ONE DAY I WAS LYING IN THE BED TIRED WITH THE COVERS PULLED OVER MY HEAD, MY BABY SON PATRICK RUNS IN WITH A BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE BECAUSE HE IS EXCITED ABOUT PLAYING FOOTBALL THAT AFTERNOON.

I REMEMBER EVERY THING ABOUT THAT DAY.
I KNOW THAT MY HEART WAS SO FULL BECAUSE I REALIZED THAT THERE IS NO GREATER JOY THAN GETTING UP EARLY ON A SATURDAY MORNING TO WATCH MY SON PATRICK PLAY FOOTBALL....
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?...
LASHON AND PATRICK CAMPBELL |
SUDDENLY I WAS NOT SO TIRED AFTER ALL.
WHAT BRINGS A SMILE TO YOUR FACE?

LASHON CAMPBELL RESIDES IN OCEANWAY, FLORIDA WITH HER HUSBAND A COMMAND MASTER CHIEF AND THEIR 3 CHILDREN.
As a mother I understand your pause here. He looks smaller than the other boys.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing. I knowit is difficult when a mother has reservations about their child playing tackle football and A father that really wants to see his son play. Praying for your child's safety as well as Clarity for you in this situation...
ReplyDeletewhen my son started tackle football at 8 I was way past frantic..My husband kept telling me it was going to be alll right. When he got hit and the wind got knocked out of him I leaped off the bench like a crazy woman. My son was OK. But in the middle of the craziness i realized i was scaring him by being so fearful. Lashon
ReplyDeletei prayed about it and my eyes are nice annd clear. Thanks for sharing your personal story. I really enjoyed connecting with you.
@gloria..I admit when you described leaping off the bench, I did smile for a brief moment..Believe me I do understand. that is why I wrote this story. I knew that I could not be the only mother in town with reservations..With that being said, I am no longer afraid of him playing tackle football. I am know more at ease with the fear that gripped me last year.
ReplyDeleteWhile it is wonderful to teach our kids the responsibility and how to work as a team, they also need to learn how to take care of themselves when they are out there.
so we must educate the coaches, the players and the parents.
I am glad you connected through this story. I look forward to hearing from you real soon Gloria.
You are only human, of course you're going to worry. Its only natural!
ReplyDelete@Linda...He was shorter, not smaller. He was in a divison that was 2 years older than he was. But Patrick is big and strong. I just did not want him to get hurt. Thanks Linda and come back and join in on the conversation at any time. Your comments are important to me. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you Lashon: Did your oldest son Elijah play tackle football and if so, Was you equally as concerned with all the things that "might happen"?
ReplyDelete@HELLO TASHA, AS ALWAYS, ITS SUCH A JOY TO SEE YOUR NAME IN THE COMMENT SECTION. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, MY OLDEST SON ELIJAH PLAYED TACKLE FOOTBALL. BUT HE STARTED WITH FLAG FOOTBALL ONLY. IT WAS NOT UNTIL HE WAS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL DID I ALLOW HIM TO PLAY TACKLE.
ReplyDelete@Tasha..The answer to the second part of your question is. YES. I had major concerns with him playing as well. that is why he only played Flag Football. Also,I eventually allowed him to play because he wanted to participate so badly!!
ReplyDeleteI VOTE FOR FLAG FOOTBALL ONLY UNTIL THEY REACH THE AGE OF MIDDLE SCHOOL..JUST MY OPINION!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous.....My son enjoys playing Flag Football, but he enjoys tackle football so much more!
