My daughter Lyric is now Sigma Gamma Rho. My biggest fear about my daughter pledging a sorority was the stereotypes surrounding sorority women! I am so proud of the way that she has educated me these past couple of months. I am grateful that she herself did the proper research so that she could make the best choice for herself. Lyric is such a great person and Sigma Gamma Rho is blessed to have her. My biggest fear about my daughter was the misguided stereotypes that seem to surround so many sororities. Well, not anymore!

My daughter is such a charger and all of her hard work is paying off in such a great way. Now she has the unique opportunity to grow with her sisterhood. She took such a wonderful leap of faith when she decided to pledge Sigma Gamma Rho. She is so committed and each day she is making such a huge difference. One of the reasons she joined this sorority was she wanted to impact lives and make a positive difference. She is so strong and the entire family is extremely proud of this young woman.

Lyric, you have brought incredible change and opportunity to your college FAMU and also to the Sigma Gamma Rho organization. She is dynamic and has so much energy. When I called her yesterday she was busy working out plans to help some local kids. I love her so much and her heart is huge and ready to spread that love to people up there in Tallahassee. I am proud to write this about her and to remind everyone that we all have our own personal ideas about people, places and things. (Especially me) Its only when we ask questions, investigate and listen that we become better informed and make better choices. Once I got the facts, Once I took the time to listen and Once I LET GO of my personal preconceived ideas about sororities was I able to finally open my eyes. Then and only then was I able to embrace all of the wonderful things that the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority does for our community.
